After 2G was launched, the previous mobile telephone systems were retrospectively dubbed 1G. While radio signals on 1G networks are analogue, and on 2G networks are digital, both systems use digital signalling to connect the radio towers (which listen to the handsets) to the rest of the telephone system.

In terms of overall connection quality, 1G compares unfavourably to its successors. It has low capacity, unreliable handoff, poor voice links, and no security at all since voice calls were played back in radio towers, making these calls susceptible to unwanted eavesdropping by third parties.

I guess of you all have heard of 3G by BSNL and others. So what was this 0G? The earlier mobile radio telephones made use of 0G. These early mobile telephone systems can be distinguished from earlier closed radiotelephone systems in that they were available as a commercial service that was part of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), with their own telephone numbers, rather than part of a closed network such as a police radio or taxi dispatch system.

This week, let’s talk about the recently launched new Android based mobile phones in India: LG KS360 and LG KM710. Both the phones offer users enhanced connectivity options and a wide range of multimedia features. The all-roundish KS 630 that is already in existence sans the Android OS is likely to be re-launched with Android powering it, most probably later this year. The KS 630 fe atures a two-mega pixel camera and a full QWERTY keyboard as well.

Harmless android makes an appearance

Heard of Google? Yes, the web search giant. They have come out with an operating system for mobile phones called Android. Android is a mobile operating system running on the Linux kernel. It was initially developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance (OHA). The OHA is a consortium of 48 hardware, software and telecom companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices.

Ok, if the older Dhavlikar is reading this, take note of this free piece of advice. Reduce the rates of HSRP to suit the aam aadmi. If you must insist on high rates, charge only your MGP followers and the khaas aadmi.
Another piece of advice for the MGP head: this is Goa, not Maharashtra; it’s about time the name of the party is changed from MGP to GGP. Respect the state you are staying in… and respect the language as well.
