Rajan Narayan was born in Pune on July 4, 1947. After doing his primary education in Pune, he shifted to Banglore where he completed his schooling and his graduation with BA Honours in Economics. Rajan Narayan started his journalistic career as a sub-editor in the Financial Express, the financial daily of the Indian Express Group in 1968. He resigned FROM THE Indian Express in 1976 and joined the Onlooker magazine as assistant editor.

He became one of the youngest editors when ho took over as editor of the Mirror, a monthly magazine in 1977 at the age of 30. subsequently, he was the Managing Editor of the Imprint and deputy editor of Business India. He did a short in advertising as the General Manager of Image Ads.

He came to Goa in October,1983, to start the English edition of the O Heraldo. After 20 years a s editor of the O Heraldo, Rajan Narayan quit on October 10, 2003 and started the weekly Goan Observer with the help of friends and well wishers.
